Frampton Fish for Life The Frampton on Severn Tsunami Campaign
To supply a FishingVillage in Sri Lanka with 5 Fishing Boats to replace the ones lost in the disaster, thereby enabling them not only to feed themselves but also earn a living. We have a Liaison committee consisting of Rick Bailey, Peter Spargo, David Greenfield, Cameron Thomas. Priscilla Ramsey Daphne Gardner, After a Public Meeting in the Village Hall on Thursday 10th February 2005 the committee were appointed and asked to mobilise the clubs and societies in the village to hold fund raising events together or individually to help raise the £ 8000 needed. We are going to send the boats to the coastal town of Weligama where there are 3 refugee camps. Weligama is 130 km from Colombo. Frampton Fish for Life Committee
Latest News January 2006 We’ve done it Thanks to the effort of everyone in the village we have raised a total of £ 15500. This has meant that we have supplied 5 fully equipped fishing boats and over 100 bicycles to villagers in Sri Lanka. An additional thanks to Singer in Sri Lanka who have helped tremendously with the procurement and allocation of the equipment. Following are some photographs taken by Rick Bailey when he visited to hand over the boats
Let us not forget that the economy of the island was devastated by the Tsunami and the tourist trade that was so important was badly hit, but these people are adaptable and we can all help them further by continuing to visit the island, so making it possible for them to recover faster. contact fishforlife@framptononsevern.com
